About Me

In addition to my Bio, here are some links to posts directly about me and my life:

My Year: a Sober Journy
Personal thoughts; the death of an icon.

Matthew J. Wellman is a man of many hats; musician, teacher, writer, and professional BSer.

I've been a musician my entire life. I spent all of my 20s on a quest to fulfill my dream of going pro. I earned my bachelors degree in music performance back in 2007, performing with local music groups in Fresno, California including the flamenco group Jucal, and doing my best to play as many solo classical gigs as I could find. I taught private lessons beginning in early 2004 and just never seemed to stop.

In 2010 it was time for a change. I moved out to Las Vegas, Nevada in search of a bigger market and bigger opportunities for myself. In addition to making great connections I got to play with some truly outstanding talent including Grammy winning artist John Dolmayan of System of a Down and Las Vegas's own Venetian PM Trio. It was an incredible time in my life, full of self discovery and professional growth but I slowly realized it wasn't the life I wanted to live.

In early 2013 I left the gigs and my private studio behind and return to the California central valley to be closer with my family and focus on my writing career. With two screenplays under my belt with the help of my writing partner David Stewart and two separate novels in the works, it's early in my career but I think it's safe to say it will be a great one!

Matthew J. Wellman lives in Modesto, California with his beautiful wife, Elizabeth, their son Mason, and ferocious guard dog, Jaida.
